Granny....

Cuddled  in your arms
Under  moonlit night
Feeling the warmth beneath
Holding onto you tight
I crept into your bed
For countless stories in store
Of fairies princes and ghosts
Tempting me for more
Honesty prevails alone
And goodness over sins
What really did inspire
Was Arjuna’s wins
I never wanted to come back
To boring afternoons
Where every day after school
 Lonely I marooned
Craving for your love
Starving for your care
Remembering tales of courage
And tales of dare
I miss you all along
In spring or winter fall
My dear sweet granny
The greatest love of all

Where are my files ? he squalled after fanatically searching them all over the house , she came rushing from the kitchen leaving the chopping board and knife in a hurry and presenting herself in front of him , reviving old theories of a dutiful wife .

Looking at her , a feeling of disgust crossed  his mind reinforcing his believes on the abilities and capabilities of a vernacular medium educated middle class house wife .

Few decades thence….

So , Ma’m what would you like to say after being selected as the most promising woman writer by the Literacy Society of the State ? asked the journalist enthusiastically .

Well just one thing….I would like to dedicate my success to my beloved husband who had once asked me to clean up an old room in the backyard , luckily I found many books written by famous authors though in a bit dilapidated  condition but that did inspire me for instilling life into my thoughts holding on to the paper and pen , she replied candidly .

Paired Forever...

This post is a part of Write Over the Weekend, an initiative for Indian Bloggers by BlogAdda.

It was the day of her daughter’s annual function and she had been repeatedly warned to not miss it amid any circumstance .
The name of the best artist of the year was announced .

A satiated smile adorned her lips not only displaying the happiness of a proud parent but also that of an passionate artist torn apart from her canvass giving in to the restrains of an Indian woman’s life .

“Mama”.... her daughter’s voice flowed in , there she stood beaming with radiance on her gentle face .

In utter silence she promised herself to let those tiny hands cling on to the paintbrush and colors as if  paired forever unlike her own which lay in ruins abandoned in some corner of her old home .

Enshrouded Love....

                          Five Sentence Fiction...." Ruins "

Circumstance simply pulled them apart ignoring their every single plea .
Dejected dismayed they tried too hard to continue life’s journey .

Still a concealed desire lay deep down somewhere in their minds preserved from the view of this judgmental world where they resided as complete strangers again .

When fate dragged them together once more into an unplanned outing to a historical fort with their friends.
Their eyes met and that hidden desire kindled hope unwrapping their enshrouded love even amidst those old rugged ruins .

Drops....

Pure pristine mesmerized in hope ,
I descend down from my home up above ,
Bidding goodbye to fellow mates  ,
Wanting to get unveiled ,
Transforming my state .
Pitter-patter I fall down ,
Over tree tops , over dusty grounds ,
Sometimes getting trapped in a cold frigid lake ,
Sometimes flowing away ,
Putting my life at stake .
Through mountains , through valleys ,
Through boulders and rubles ,
Never drying down ,
To keep up this travel .
Still if ever I get engulfed ,
Changed is my course ,
I continue journeying ,
Never intending to stop .
Toppling on the leaves ,
Shining gently on flowers ,
I wish I could stay ,
Not just for a while ,
But for hours and hours .
Remembering my duty I give up that joy ,
To coalesce together ,
To reach the desired place .
To be your savior every time you need ,
As a new born or a dead man instead ,
To quench your thirst in a hot blistering day ,
To make you dance in a cloudy evening ,
To wash off every dirt that coheres with you ,
To let you travel in search of a land new ,
Committed , devoted , engulfed I remain ,
My whole life ,
For your personal gains .
Still , you don’t understand ,
And disregard my worth ,
Dirtying soiling griming my source ,
Forgetting without me ,
You won’t even stand a single day ,
In the months of December  or the months of May .
I may be tiny I may be small ,
I may not resemble something substantial at all ,
But if I get wild and combine in fury ,
Nothing can save you ,
Not even your imploring pleading story ,
Stop I will not at that very  time ,
As over and over again you are repeating old crimes ,
So gently today I wish you to take note ,
Preserve me  dear ,
Do not let me rot ,
Coz pristine and pure I love to remain ,
Relieving you of ,
Every little strain ,
Quenching your thirst ,
Allaying your fears ,
Easing your life ,
Amid smiles amid tears .

" Today is 22nd March , World Water Day "

Someday.....

Someday I will come ,
Breaking free ,
From the clutches of fate ,
Resolving inviolable strands ,
Ignoring those piercing voices ,
Slipping away beneath the sand .
Someday I wish ,
To feel the grass ,
Beneath my feet ,
Touched  by the fresh drops of dew ,
Sparkling on flowers ,
Shining near the meadow .
Someday I hope ,
To sit back in leisure ,
Sewing new dreams ,
On this big blue canvass ,
Spread all over ,
Where clouds of distinct shapes ,
Joyfully hover ,
Waiting to commingle ,
Together again ,
To purify self ,
In the sanctifying rain .
May be Some day….

A-Z Challenge Theme

This is the first time I am taking part in the A-Z April Challenge .
Well…I  can say…. I am a bit nervous .
Although I have been writing  regularly since the last six months , still I can’t say myself to be a full fledged blogger .
I  joined few social networking sites meant for writers and bloggers , and it helped immensely .
For the first time I participated in the Write Tribe Festival of Words 3 , and man that was such an amazing experience !!!
I got to read so many new blogs , their stories , their poems , their articles and the most special part was interacting with them .
Initially when I had started blogging there were hardly any visitors . I would coerce my friends to read my posts and say how it was J
As a newbie blogger I had no idea how to let more people read my posts .
Then after joining few sites the traffic did increase a bit .
But , the write tribe festival opened my eyes . I realized how important it is for a blogger to interact with fellow bloggers .
I never expected such an overwhelming response to some of my posts .
So, thanks a lot everyone for your encouraging comments and your incredible posts .
And now comes the time for the A-Z Challenge .
I have been waiting for this for quite some time now but was a bit skeptical .
As to write with all the 26 letters and that to serially would be a tough task for a newbie blogger like me .
Still , I want to be a part of this challenge coz I feel it will open new doors for us in the blogging world .
I had simply thought of writing posts  beginning with different letters or on a theme of that particular letter , but hadn’t given a thought about anything like a theme based writing .
And today being the theme revelation day , I too wish to choose one .
So , my theme would be based on “ Human Lives “….their emotions , their experiences , their struggles and much more coz in this path of life we all go through innumerable experiences and emotions which makes it so intriguing .
Hope you all enjoy reading my posts and scribble down few words as that encourages a writer to improvise further .
And thank you Vidya Ma’m for your support .
Best wishes for all my fellow bloggers ….Happy Blogging J

An Artist's Plea....

An Artist's Ordeal in the form of Poetry , Raghurajpur , Odisha  ( Indiblogger.... HalfStories , Doing It Right )

Years ago I was welcomed ,
With cuddles and hugs and love ,
As a newborn ,
In this village of art ,
Whose history travels decades back .
With innocent eyes I looked around ,
To get amazed and astound ,
By the vibrancy ,the vigor ,
By the art and the artists in store .
My little fingers mingled along ,
Hesitantly with colors , brushes , paper and sketches spread on the floor ,
I went back again and again wanting more .
With time as my hands were able to clutch ,
It chose a brush instead of slate ,
To dive inside an artist’s palette .
Tangy yellow or divine white , glossy red or lustrous green ,
Shady black or dull grey ,
My love for them never frayed .

When and how I fell in I never knew ,
But each time my feelings renewed  ,
Never letting me go off ,
In search of an alien land or unknown stuff .
These colors held me tight in it’s arms ,
Mixing blending mingling fusing ,
Mesmerizing me each day ,
With new undiscovered charms .

The wheels of time passed on fast ,
And as a full fledged artist my journey was about to start ,
Every day as the sun arrives with a new day ,
I bent down for hours ,
Filling in colors , decorating my Lord ,
Bringing him alive on  paper blocks .
The shells of coconut sometimes serve as canvas.
Bathing in colors of black and ash ,
Expressing the lives of RadhaKrishan ,
Conveying love evincing  heavenly feelings ,
Beautifying those Gopis devoted to Lord .

I took a pledge to commit my life ,
As an artist worshiping art .
My dusk my  dawns got coalesced together ,
Drawing painting filling in colors ,
Giving final strokes even when the clock struck mid night ,
Neither searching nor remembering the comforts of a fertile life .
Then , one fine day she too stepped in ,
Into my shoes to help me paint ,
Wiping off strain reducing my stress .
Together we dwelt deep into this world ,
Of art of artists build with a distinct mold ,
Caring sharing looking into each other’s eyes ,
My love for art and my better half ,
Satiated my inner self with reasons to strive .
Things went on fine for months , for years ,
For  decades and some more .

When one unfortunate event opened my eyes ,
Compelling me to look otherwise .
With few bucks in my pocket  I couldn’t provide ,
A good treatment to my wife ,
When in pain she strived .
Her heart wrenching wails stopped my hands ,
To paint to brush to mingle with those colorful strands .
Dejected dismayed I sat near my door ,
Watching the wind swing along the coconut trees ,
When someone’s hand touched my shirt’s crease .

It was my son who had come to talk ,
About questions in his mind ,
Whether on a new path we need to walk .
What has this art given us father he inquired ,
Aren’t you simply tired .
Your devotion your dedication nothing matters much ,
When you have to face the realities of the world as such .
Putting aside other things just think about us once ,
Is this art a blessing or an obscure curse .
Which snatched away our mother in front of our eyes ,
But didn’t grant us enough to help her survive .
What is this art which snatches away your loved one ,
Because never ever did enough it let you earn .
A doubt too then sneaked into my psyche ,
Searching it’s real worth behind it’s hype .
What if tomorrow again my kids face the same ,
And lead the same life as me ,
Getting underpaid by those middlemen .
What if again fate deceives them ,
Handing them nothing more than appreciation letters ,
No , I can’t let someone else’s dream shatter .
So , here I am today in front of you ,
Asking for some time ,
Asking for a generous thought ,
As a long battle we have already fought .
To help us live a life of respect and dignity ,
Never losing our focus  from our art ,
Never diluting it’s sanctity .
It won’t cost much if you would really care ,
Coz it’s a battle to be won ,
Playing honest  and fair .
An artist may not demand for money name or fame ,
Still he has to play the so called ,
Life’s game .
So help me grow , help me survive ,
Help me today as I need your support to fight ,
The big bad world which doesn’t understand ,
That a piece of Art ,
Deciphers a million words .

Raghurajpur “ The Heritage Village is near Puri in the state of Odisha ,where every villager is an Artist and every home a Art Studio .

But unfortunately these talented artist’s are deprived of the deserving value of their  art work. They toil for hours , days , months , years and decades together to help this legacy continue .
Now , it’s time we share our part and contribute some amount for the betterment of these gifted artists who are born with the identity of an Artist and die in the same .

Colors....

Adorned in colors she steps ,
As a newly wed ,
With hope in her eyes ,
Blessed with looks divine .
Flowing like a stream ,
Dancing like the clouds ,
She filled their life with joy ,
Making all proud .
Her beauty , her duty , her love , her work ,
Praised each one ,
As she dazzled like a spark .
Beaming glowing radiating shine ,
Clothed days together ,
Wishing  happiness to carry on forever and ever .
Red or blue or yellow or green ,
Colors what she loved ,
Making  their life vibrant ,
Never wanting to stop .
But ,
She never knew ,
Everyone’s not born so lucky ,
To get bathed in sunlight ,
Coz swabbed  will be the days in blue .
Those colors those praises those care those love ,
It all just swept apart ,
Giving way to a  melancholy journey ,
Awaiting to start .
White was her world , white her  life ,
Complementing the blankness  ,
Undeclared arrived that misfortune ,
Never hinting even a pinch .
Deceiving her wailing cries ,
It all got washed ashore ,
Escaping clasped clinch .
A living curse labeled she was ,
Coz that’s what a widow is ,
In yesteryear or today’s world ,
And in every one’s eyes .
Forgotten forbidden secluded she remained ,
From festivities in the courtyard ,
Fate bestowed upon her ,
Not blessings but a life unusually hard .
Years passed on and time moved on ,
But she didn’t ever realize ,
What was her mistake ,
Where exactly did she go wrong .
Then , one fine day it came again ,
Spreading splendor across ,
In every street in every house ,
Indiscriminating lament or loss .
Tiny hands dabbed in colors quietly sneaked in ,
Declaring  a ‘ Happy Holi ‘ with a radiant grin .
A tinge of yellow touched her clothes ,
Making her feel alive ,
Begging forgiveness to her virtuous heart ,
Having punished , though it wasn’t her crime .
She was pulled into the world once more ,
To live to smile to share ,
Scattered in air the yellow the red ,
Vibrated across the blue ,
 Rinsing away strains ,
Carrying away with it ,
Every settled down pitiful gloom .

Behind....

Behind a beaming smile ,
There’s a hidden tear ,
Behind a brave persona ,
There are overcome fears ,
Behind a thundering applause ,
There is a toiling hard ,
Behind those big bold talks ,
There’s a feeling dark ,
Behind that vivacious life ,
There’s a wrenching pain ,
Behind those well polished wrap ups ,
There’s a refrained strain ,
Behind those dark kohl eyes ,
There’s a concealed scar ,
Behind prevailing peace ,
There’s long forgotten war ,
Behind every new sunrise ,
There’s a melancholy dark ,
Behind grey hovering clouds ,
Awaits a thundering light spark ,
Behind an accomplished chore ,
There remains an unfinished whole ,
Behind those flesh laden bodies ,
There’s an unscathed pristine soul .

When....

When shatters a long lived hope ,
Pierces pain deep within ,
Replacing words with silence ,
Still quietly the forbidden heart screams .
When breaks an impregnable trust ,
Faith simply bursts apart ,
Spilling all over preserved beliefs ,
Feelings slowly depart .
When eyes open up one day ,
Recognizing  disillusioned fate ,
Unveiling those obscure masks ,
It’s never just too late .
When wishful dream flees ,
From confines of a clenched fist ,
Times to come seems envisioned ,
Beclouded up with mist .
Still have to carry on ,
Still have to walk along ,
For awaits a better tomorrow ,
Bejeweled in soulful songs…
