Flames

It burned bright, incinerated, set ablaze my whole existence and rekindled my sunken thoughts.

The color red, your favorite and mine too adorned the walls of the room I had stepped into.
The dark brown photo frame on the wooden bedside table wasn’t actually blank though it appeared so, as it's your picture that it was waiting for to cling on.

Mystifying, it felt at first in the initial days when I had shifted to this new place alone, far from my past tie ups breaking shackles that  grasped me.

Little did I know, it was you who had pulled me, again, my twin flame, till the very morning of yesterday when I saw you drying yourself in the balcony, fresh from bath, droplets still hanging on like a stubborn desire,  I found home in the middle of nowhere.

Unspoken....

Sudhir ran with full speed but it seemed as if he was destined to be late. The car had already left the campus leaving behind a trail of memories that filled his heart with happiness but at the same time snatched away his beloved Smriti.

The book dropped from his hands as a grief stricken Sudhir broke down in pain for not ever being able to speak of his innumerable emotions that he hid behind his subtle smile.
The book lay there on the floor untouched, ignored like a lost love feeling helpless and baffled waiting for someone to come for it’s rescue when the canteen boy’s eyes fell on it and within no time it found itself surrounded by numerous others on Park lane, famous for old books.

“As in books so in life, it’s not about the hours but the feelings that binds us…. Your’s Sudhir” were the lines written on the first page of a Nicholas Spark’s novel with the date of their graduation, that Smriti discovered on one of her expeditions for old books in the city and an unexpected celebration filled her heart with warmth speaking out unspoken emotions that Sudhir wasn’t able to.

The Wait....

Beautiful it was
Every day
As she swayed her curvy body away
A gentle breeze seemed to cross
For love struck couples
Wanting to be lost
In valley of emotion
In feeling’s stream
Speaking of love
Not caprice or whim

Alas! I forgot the world around
That crushed my tender love to the ground
Ignoring requests
Snubbing my pleas
Reminding
I am a mere tree
Born to serve
With my log
With my wood
Giving warmth preparing food

Whatever I am
I don’t want to know
Coz I will be waiting for her
In flowery springs
Or in winter snow

Distance....

Moving on wasn’t possible so they decided not to .

It was not going to work out owing to their professional demands which traversed in different directions argued their families .

Still they persisted and tied the knot , with dissatisfaction brewing mildly in the background .

Trying hard every day to keep their personal and professional life balanced ,  they continued to walk together being each others support in every circumstance , though staying apart .

Today when they sit back relaxing over the weekend , reading a newly released novel or enjoying one of the latest movies , a gentle breeze passes by soothing their soul as if reverberating in silence , “ distances do not tie up people but commitment does “ .

As you all know friends I really love Happy Endings so here comes another write up with the same theme and the same characters but a different end :) Hope you like it....

The Painting

The hall was beaming with enthusiasm filled in with students who were too busy arranging for the Pooja ( festival ) to be held after some time .

Someone was tying up flowers , someone decorating the stage while one was placing the cut fruits on plates to be served and some other busy dialing the caterer’s number who had to arrive half an hour before but was already late .

Like everyone else she was also busy with the task assigned by seniors to ensure her name  in their good book , when her eyes fell on an unknown face watching her painting keenly put on the college activity board .

“ Shruti “ called her friend introducing her to that unknown face, “So , are you the artist “ he asked with a mild grin .

She nodded in approval completely unaware that her favorite painting would tie up the artist and the admirer as companions for life one day .

Granny....

Cuddled  in your arms
Under  moonlit night
Feeling the warmth beneath
Holding onto you tight
I crept into your bed
For countless stories in store
Of fairies princes and ghosts
Tempting me for more
Honesty prevails alone
And goodness over sins
What really did inspire
Was Arjuna’s wins
I never wanted to come back
To boring afternoons
Where every day after school
 Lonely I marooned
Craving for your love
Starving for your care
Remembering tales of courage
And tales of dare
I miss you all along
In spring or winter fall
My dear sweet granny
The greatest love of all

Enshrouded Love....

                          Five Sentence Fiction...." Ruins "

Circumstance simply pulled them apart ignoring their every single plea .
Dejected dismayed they tried too hard to continue life’s journey .

Still a concealed desire lay deep down somewhere in their minds preserved from the view of this judgmental world where they resided as complete strangers again .

When fate dragged them together once more into an unplanned outing to a historical fort with their friends.
Their eyes met and that hidden desire kindled hope unwrapping their enshrouded love even amidst those old rugged ruins .

Together...

She put down her luggage on the berth and waved good bye to her father .
Unclear chatters flowed in , relieving her with the presence of women co-passengers .

Settling down near the window she started to feel the gentle breeze on her face that seemed to play with her random brown hair .
Moments like these were her favorite coz they gave her  freedom to dive deep into the world of her thoughts.
Time seemed to pass on with the rolling wheels on the track .

Having gotten engrossed in a new book ,she was completely unaware of some one’s presence near her .
Hesitantly she raised her head to find a guy about her age standing with a bottle of water .
“ Oh …is this yours “…” I am sorry “…. She spelled out in haste .
“ It’s fine…no issues …I prefer hovering around on this wheels in motion “ he said and vanished leaving behind the bottle .

The sun had started shining radiantly and the pantry boys had delivered the packets .

“ So ,you enjoy reading or is it just a travel companion ? “
Faint lines of disgust could be clearly seen on her face , she hated being disturbed from the dwellings of a book .
“ I love reading “ she said in a crude manner , “ Me too “ came a prompt reply .

Next summer ….

The train screeched to halt in a station during the wee hours of the morning .
The cold wind gushed in through the slight space compelling her to wake up .
With lazy eyes she looked out of the window when someone familiar caught her attention .
Their visions coincided freshening up the morning with a gentle smile .

“ You want one  “ he asked offering her a cup of tea warmed up with emotions .
“ So , you a doc …don’t worry I saw your medical books previous time “.
“Oh !” and  “ You “…”she asked , “ Me too but of the non living ones that has stormed into our private spaces decades ago”.
They burst into laughter disturbing the sound sleep of fellow passengers .

Few summers more….

She put down her luggage on the berth , the train’s siren resonated across signaling it was time for departure.

And together they bid goodbye to their in laws .

Never Wanna Lose You...

[ This is a short story written in form of poetry about a working couple who live in different cities because of their professional obligations but try hard to keep their relationship steady irrespective of the challenges they face . ]

I don’t speak much and just ask you to  ,
As words with me are very few ,
Every morning when you wake me up ,
I wish the clock stops it’s ticktock ,
As I carve to hear your soft  voice ,
Freshened with emotions ,
And honeyed with love .
But , alas I need to rush downstairs ,
Or else I would miss the bus approaching in pairs ,
Where  literally I scramble for a seat ,
Achieving it  , makes my mood upbeat ,
If luckily ever I chance upon a window one ,
The mild breeze brings your memories with them ,
Filling my heart and soul with your thoughts ,
Slowly as I start getting engulfed ,
I think someone’s jealous …and that’s the driver as he honks ,
In random  absurd and crude manner ,
Coercing me to get down soon ,
And stop dreaming about our date …beneath the lovely moon ,
Dragging my feet I reach for the door ,
Running like a champion to reach my space ,
That has given me ,my worth deserving place ,
Tying all day on the computer screen ,
Don’t think sweet heart I have gotten mean ,
It’s so true that I don’t find time ,
To dial your number expressing my mind ,
Still every time when I pause for a moment ,
It’s your smile that melts away my laments ,
Every time when you remember my name ,
Those logical coding goes wrong in my brain ,
After the dusk as I come back ,
I wish you were with me , waiting in the flat ,
It’s ok..I manage thinking of you ,
Eagerly expecting  your calls with  smiles renewed ,
But …if there’s some change in this routine ,
My heart escapes a beat within ,
Random thoughts occupy the psyche ,
Scarring me to hell  , restiveness takes a hype ,
A million times I check the phone’s screen ,
Praying lord for all signals to go green ,
Perplexed baffled dumbfounded I become ,
Hoping that nothing happens to my love ,
Wishing every second that you receive the call ,
And I get to hear your angelic voice my gal ,
I die a numerous times till you say ,
It’s  fine dear , things haven’t gone astray ,
I thank  the Almighty for just being there ,
And bestowing on us his unseen care ,
I may not say it as often as you do ,
But do believe me dear …. I never wanna lose you .

Hesitant Steps....

Hesitant Steps ,
Quickened heart beats ,
With fear in her heart she crossed that busy street ,
Dressed up in white ,
Adorning a smile bright ,
She tried to hide her concerns ,
Of having come this far ,
Believing being guided by her lucky star .
As she stepped down the stairs ,
To make a new move ,
Her eyes met His ,
Interlacing  young dreams to get wove.
Leaning against the column ,
He too stepped aside ,
Signifying his actions of making a novel stride .
For seconds  when their vision ,
Got  glued with one another ,
Not words but silence ,
Just blended together .
Those moments of speechlessness ,
Expressed what they could ,
In a crowded platform ,
Leaving the two hearts marooned .
Slowly with passing times ,
Their emotions resembled famous  fables ,
Intended of being together ,
In spite of worldly wobbles .
Decades passed on and days were gone ,
Sometimes filled with roses ,
And sometimes swabbed in stones .
Life hasn’t always painted a rosy picture delight ,
Neither have been all mornings a bright ray of sunlight .
It had it’s own share of every right and wrong ,
But something that didn’t change ,
Is the trust that stood strong .
Which leaves them stranded ,
Even today at this age ,
In a solitary island or a crowded place .
Holding her wrinkled hands ,
Sitting by her side ,
He looked in the same manner ,
Into her deep pristine eyes ,
Feeling  her breaths escape ,
In that white gown’s crease .
He traveled  back to those days ,
When her face was blemish free .
Slowly as he watched ,
Life escaping closed fists ,
He wanted to bestow her with innumerable lovely gifts .
But again this time he couldn’t ,
And tightened his lips in silence .
Thanking her for coming ,
With him till today so far ,
Having overcome her fears ,
And believing in that star .
After she was gone ,
Like a little child he just wept ,
Coz decades ago for him ,
She had taken that Hesitant Step .

If Ever Someday....

If ever someday you feel  lone ,
Till the horizons it’s just you and no one ,
A vacuumed silence  prevails all around ,
Up in the high skies and deep beneath the ground .

If ever someday you stumble upon ,
With any rock or sharp thorn ,
When an unsounded scream escapes your heart ,
Not just you but it’s me who gets hurt .

If ever someday you think  you can’t carry on ,
Circumstances are pulling you back ,
It’s hectic to move on ,
Put the step forward ,
Coz I will be there ,
To hold your hands and gift you with care ,
To let you fly with your wings trudged in air ,
To relieve your mind of all nightmares  .
To help you get rid of unwanted errands ,
To wash away those old painful strands ,
To aid you in building new , reinforced dreams ,
To giggle you up , watching cartoon films .
To bring back memories of  those lost childhood days ,
To ward off the moments of laze .
To wake you up with refreshing chirps ,
To walk with you on adventurous trips .

If ever someday  you feel lost ,
In this big bad world ,
If not someone else , then it will be me ,
On whom you can trust .

If ever someday you feel lone ,
Till the horizon’s it’s you and no one ,
Don’t worry dear …I will be there ,
To avert the vacuumed silence prevailing around ,
Up in the high skies and deep beneath the ground .
If ever someday….
